The Team

A Proudly Cambodian Team

Plantation is owned by two Cambodian families, and since opening in 2011, we have remained deeply rooted in Cambodia. Today, our resort is operated by a predominantly Cambodian team, with many of our managers having started their careers with us in entry-level positions before progressing into leadership roles.

Our Team

Alexander Scheible – General Manager

Alexander Scheible, a German national and hotelier by trade, first came to Cambodia in 2005. Since then, he has worked for various hospitality properties across the region and helped pioneer river cruising on the Mekong. He joined Plantation Resort during its post-COVID renovation. As General Manager, he oversees the resort’s overall operations, strategy, and guest experience, ensuring Plantation remains a calm urban retreat in the heart of Phnom Penh. In his spare time, he is learning Khmer, although his progress has been slower than expected—not his teacher’s fault.

Mr. Chann Borey – Front Office Manager

Mr. Borey leads the Front Office team, overseeing arrivals, departures, reservations, and guest relations. As one of the first people guests meet, he helps create a smooth and welcoming experience from check-in to check-out and ensures every stay starts on the right note. Originally from Kampot Province, he has been with Plantation since the hotel’s opening and also looks after our art gallery, and souvenir shop. Outside work, he is a passionate football fan, whether playing on the pitch or watching.

Mr. Chhiv Ritheany – Reservations

Originally from Battambang Province, Mr. Chhiv Ritheany is often the very first point of contact for guests planning their stay, dining experience, or event. He manages the reservation systems and ensures enquiries are handled efficiently and accurately, helping guests before they even arrive. He joined Plantation in 2026, bringing extensive Front Office experience from several hotels. Outside work, he enjoys running and regularly takes part in local races.

Ms. Sek Sorpohorn – Housekeeping Manager

Ms. Sorpohorn leads the housekeeping team, ensuring guest rooms and public areas are maintained to the highest standards. Her team’s attention to detail contributes greatly to Plantation’s peaceful atmosphere and consistently high guest satisfaction. She has been with the hotel since the very beginning and also adds the finishing decorative touches, including flowers and seasonal displays. Her favorite colour is pink, and she is a devoted Hello Kitty fan, with matching décor at home and even a pink car.

Mr. Chap Sokha – Food & Beverage Manager

Mr. Chap Sokha manages all Food & Beverage operations, including our restaurants, bar, events, and in-room dining. His focus is on attentive service, consistency, and creating memorable dining experiences for both hotel guests and local visitors. Originally from Siem Reap, he joined Plantation Resort in 2023 after leading F&B teams at several renowned hotels. He enjoys hosting special events, meeting guests from around the world, and representing the resort at professional events across the city. Outside of work, he enjoys.

Nicolas Malherbe – Executive Chef

Chef Nicolas Malherbe leads the kitchen team, overseeing menu development, food quality, and daily culinary operations. He came to Cambodia in 2018 and has since led the kitchens of several renowned restaurants, helping establish them among Phnom Penh’s leading dining destinations. His creativity and international experience shape the dining experience at La Pergola and throughout the resort, ensuring every dish reflects the hotel’s high standards. He enjoys interacting with guests and sharing his passion for French cuisine with local influences.

Mr. Nong Tony – POMMEC Manager

Mr. Tony oversees all engineering, maintenance, technical systems, and facilities across the resort. Although guests may rarely see his team, their work is essential in ensuring that everything, from air conditioning to the swimming pool, operates perfectly throughout every stay. Having been with Plantation for many years, he knows every corner of the property. In his free time, he volunteers at a local orphanage and enjoys exercising after work.

Ms. Cheam Channa – Finance Manager

Ms. Channa leads the Finance department, managing budgeting, reporting, and financial control. While her role is mostly behind the scenes, her work helps ensure the resort operates efficiently and continues investing in the guest experience. Originally from Phnom Penh, she is known for her attention to detail and reliability. Outside the office, she is the proud mother of three children.

Ms. Meas Socheat – Human Resources Manager

Ms. Socheat oversees recruitment, training, staff development, employee wellbeing, and regulatory compliance. By supporting and developing the team, she plays an important role in delivering the warm and professional service guests experience throughout the resort. She also manages licensing and administrative matters. Outside work, she enjoys supporting her daughter at horse riding competitions, where she occasionally volunteers.

The History of Plantation

Nestled behind historic walls in the heart of Phnom Penh, Plantation occupies a property that has witnessed much of the city’s modern history. The original buildings were constructed during the French colonial period and later served as offices of Cambodia’s Ministry of Labour.

Over time, the property became neglected and overgrown. In 2011, the current owner acquired the site and embarked on an ambitious restoration project to transform it into a boutique resort while preserving its architectural heritage and unique atmosphere. The historic main building was carefully restored and today serves as the hotel’s lobby, while the former offices were converted into guest rooms. Mature trees and tropical gardens were preserved, two pools were added among the gardens, and many original architectural features were incorporated into the design. The result is a hotel that respects the past while providing the comfort and amenities expected by today’s travellers.
